The history of Dansk - In the 1950’s Ted and Martha Nierenberg travelled throughout Europe and were mesmerized by the elegant, yet simple design they found in Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Scandinavian home design featured elegant simplicity wrought from practical materials. It was obvious to Ted & Martha that these simple, relaxed home products were ideal for the American home marketing, which had changed dramatically. American consumers no longer yearned for formal, stuffy dining rooms, with the kitchen relegated to simply the preparation of food - but instead wanted informal gatherings - bbq’s, pool and garden parties or informal gatherings of friends and families. The walls between cooking and dining were fading away – with more casual social interactions taking center stage. And Dansk was born. Initially working with revered Danish designer Jens Quistgaard, they found beauty and intelligence that was both relevant and revered. In Jens designs, Dansk pioneered the essence of Scandinavian design elegant simplicity wrought from practical materials. For more than 50 years Dansk’s commitment to distinctive Scandinavian design, ideal for the modern casual American lifestyle has endured both with its underlying principles of clean, simple, intelligent solutions made with to great natural materials.
